Certified Temperament Counseling
What is a Certified Temperament Counselor?
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:11(ESV)
In the 1980s, Drs. Richard and Phyllis Arno of Sarasota, Florida developed a system to identify an individual's God-given temperament. The test is called the Arno Profile System. Their theory of the 5 temperaments has remains a widely used and highly regarded instrument.
The A.P.S. is a counseling technique used by thousands of lay counselors, professional counselors, clergy and other professionals throughout the United States and in numerous other countries. The system enables a qualified counselor to identify an individual's root problem faster and more accurately. This counseling model, developed by the National Christian Counselors Association (N.C.C.A.), focuses on enabling individuals to better understand themselves and their responsibility to establish a spiritual relationship with the Lord. The role of a Certified Temperament Counselor is to help people identify who God created the individual to be in his or her “inmost being” - who they are in Christ. Learning who God created us to be (our temperament) and who we become (through our learned behavior) can be entirely different. It's important to find out who we really are and utilize ways to become the person God has called us to be (the true self) instead of the person we have learned to be (the masked self). By practicing this, Certified Temperament Counselors can help an individual learn to operate temperaments with their God-given strengths, guided by the Word of God, walking with the Spirit and overcoming temperament weaknesses.
You will be given a 54 question test (taken virtually) that takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.
The Arno Profile measures three areas of a person's temperament: Inclusion (mind), Control (will) and Affection (emotions). The A.P.S. identifies the 5 temperaments and recognizes more that 40,000 different combinations.
